The latest step forward in natural volume enhancement and facial rejuvenation, Selphyl is a new procedure which involves the use of Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) as a type of dermal filler. PRFM uses a concentration of the patient's own platelets and tissue building elements to naturally smooth the skin by stimulating cell proliferation and providing a gradual increase in facial volume. This natural stimulation process gently rejuvenates the skin through targeted tissue regeneration.
FDA approved and with thousands of procedures performed worldwide, this treatment has been extensively used for soft tissue regeneration in plastic surgery, orthopaedics and maxillofacial surgery.
How it works
The patient's blood is drawn and placed into a centrifuge to separate the platelets and fibrin. This platelet rich fibrin matrix is then injected into the treatment areas. It is important to note that the injected material is not the cause of the volume enhancement, unlike traditional dermal fillers. Rather, these tissue building elements contain growth factors that stimulate your body's own collagen regeneration, which gradually adds fullness and creates the rejuvenated result.
There will be some minor swelling and redness after the treatment which should resolve after a few days. There is also potential for bruising in the treated area, which may last seven to ten days.
Results are gradually seen over the course of three to six weeks on average, and may last for one year or longer. A series of sessions may be required for optimum results.
