There are four types of breast surgeries performed at Skinworks. Breast Enhancement uses breast implants to enhance the size and shape of the breast. About the procedures
Dr. Carr uses both traditional and new limited scar techniques. Increasingly popular is the endoscopic breast augmentation, where small incisions are placed in the underarm so that there is virtually no visible scarring on the breasts! However, Dr. Carr is also familiar with more traditional breast augmentation techniques which involve creating small incisions either on the edge of the areola or under the natural breast crease. Dr. Carr was the first plastic surgeon, and one of the few surgeons in Canada today, to offer the “TUBA” method of breast augmentation – where a small incision is placed almost imperceptibly in the belly button…virtually “scarless” breast surgery! Dr. Carr and his skilled staff will be able to guide you in making the right choice for your personal circumstances.
Dr. Carr also has extensive experience with the use of the new Cohesive gel implants for a truly soft and natural breast enhancement. Also, ask about the new shaped implants which are becoming increasingly popular.
During reduction surgery, fat, glandular tissue and excess skin are removed from the breasts, and the size of the areola can be reduced if desired.
Breast lift surgery or mastopexy surgery can be combined with breast augmentation when desirable. Breast surgeries only take a few hours under a general anaesthetic, and you will be able to return home on the same day.
What to expect during recovery
You will have approximately one week of recovery, accompanied by some swelling and tenderness. Patients must avoid heavy lifting for three weeks. For augmentations, a special support bra is worn for several weeks to ensure optimal implant position.
